Securing talented employees is one of the most critical requirements for organizational growth. At the same time, job seekersā€™ primary concern is getting a position that is in line with their career goals. Particularly, for job seekers who are looking to begin their career after graduation, it is essential to step off on the right foot. To fulfill the needs of organization and job applicant, job advertisements play a significant role. The current study examines the use and perceptions of hiring information by job seekers. The job search and organizational entry processes necessarily produce a certain degree of uncertainty, and job advertisements are one of the key contributors in that process. According to uncertainty management theory, uncertainty results in optimistic or pessimistic emotion about the source of uncertainty, and the elicited emotions influence additional information seeking behavior. Likewise, uncertainty in job search processes may impact job seekersā€™ efforts in seeking additional information. Thus, the present investigation examines the impact of uncertainty, which originates from job advertisements, on job seekersā€™ subsequent uncertainty appraisal and information seeking. In addition, the study investigates influences of three factors, such as proactive personality, person-organization (P-O) fit, and job search stress, on job seekersā€™ appraisals of uncertainty. A web-based experiment was conducted using three different hypothetical job advertisements that varied in degree of uncertainty they were designed to induce. Data were collected from a sample of university students (N = 396) to evaluate the degree to which the advertisement impacted their job-related information searching and perceptions. The results revealed that uncertainty appraisals predict job seekersā€™ subsequent information seeking intention in that optimistic views about uncertainty negatively associate with the intention to seek information. In addition, job seekers with optimistic views are more likely to seek positive information about the hiring organization. Proactive personality, subjective P-O fit, and job search stress were also identified as significant factors that influence job seekersā€™ appraisals of uncertainty. In sum, the current study found that job seekersā€™ uncertainty appraisals influenced by triadic reciprocal relationships of personal factor, behavioral cognitions, and environmental factors, and the uncertainty appraisals relate back to further information seeking

Microspore culture is done to obtain pure strains. The purpose of soybean microspore culture to obtainquality seeds. Two important step that must be done is isolation of microspores in starvation medium andsubculture into embryogenesis medium. Many factors contributing to the contamination of soybeanmicrospore culture. Contamination in the B medium temperature 34 0C is more common than 4 0C. Vulnerableto contamination because of embryogenesis medium rich in nutrients. Bacterial contaminationcan be caused by internal contaminants such as shape of the anther. Other internal contaminants thatcause diseases such as fungi Colletotrichum truncatum and Phakopsora pachyrhizi. Antagonistic fungiwhich contaminate cultures that Trichoderma spp., Alternaria spp., Fusarium spp. Handling of contaminationis done by selecting the appropriate methods in order to remain viable microspores. Sterilization soybeanflower buds with 20% Tween for 10 minutes and then rinsed with distilled water. Moreover sterilizationwith 4% Hg Cl2 and 10% NaOCl for 10 minutes, rinsed with distilled water times, followed by 96%alcohol for 1 minute, can press up to 70% contamination

PURPOSE: To examine the feasibility of endoscopic thyroidectomy (ET) via an axillo- breast approach without gas insufflation for large thyroid tumors and micropapillary carcinomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The patients in the benign group were separated into groups 1 (n=95, <4 cm in tumor diameter) and 2 (n=37, ā‰„4 cm in tumor diameter). Also, 57 patients in the micropapillary carcinoma group underwent an endoscopic hemithyroidectomy (HT) (group 3) and were compared with 60 patients who received conventional open HT (group 4). Postoperative functional outcome, local complications, surgical outcomes, and pathological outcomes were compared between the groups. RESULTS: In the benign group, there was no significant difference in mean operating time, hospital stay, or overall perioperative complications between the two groups. In the micropapillary carcinoma group, mean operating time and hospital stay in group 3 were significantly longer than in group 4 (p=0.015 and pā‰¤0.001). The overall perioperative complications did not differ significantly between the groups. The postoperative cosmetic result was better in groups 1-3 (endo group) than in group 4 (open group). CONCLUSION: ET via a gasless axillo-breast approach seems to be a safe procedure even for benign thyroid lesions ā‰„4 cm and micropapillary carcinomas. Although it has the advantage of better cosmetic results over open thyroidectomy, there is room for improvement in terms of lessening its invasiveness and shortening the operative time.ope

The combined effects of inhaled irritant gases and heat in burn patients can result in the development of laryngotracheal strictures. Several factors could adversely affect the development of tracheal stenosis and cause the growth of granulation tissue. Yet the current treatment options for this condition are limited because of the paucity of case reports. We report here on a case of a patient who experienced recurrent upper tracheal stenosis after an inhalation injury. She displayed repetitive symptoms of stenosis even after several laryngomicrosurgeries and resection with end-to-end anastomosis. Finally, 5 yr after the burn injury, slide tracheoplasty was successfully performed and the postoperative check-up findings and the increased airway volume seen on imaging were all satisfactory

Schwannoma in Head and Neck: Preoperative Imaging Study and Intracapsular Enucleation for Functional Nerve Preservation

PURPOSE: In treating schwannoma patients, it is critical to determine the origin of the tumor to preserve nerve function. We evaluated the validity of preoperative imaging studies in distinguishing the neurological origin of the schwannomas of the head and neck, and the efficacy of intracapsular enucleation in preserving nerve function. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In 7 cases of schwannomas in the head and neck region, we predicted whether the tumor originated from the vagus nerve or the cervical sympathetic chain through imaging studies including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). All patients were performed intracapsular enucleation, and the function of the vagus nerve and the sympathetic nerve was evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively. RESULTS: Preoperative imaging studies showed 6 cases where the tumor was located between the carotid artery and the internal jugular vein, and 1 case where the tumor was located posteriorly, displacing the carotid artery and the internal jugular vein anteriorly. At the time of operation, we confirmed schwannoma originating from the vagus nerve on the first 6 cases, and schwannoma originating from the sympathetic nervous system on the last case. All patients went through successful intracapsular enucleation, and of the seven schwannoma cases, 6 patients maintained normal postoperative neurological function (85.7%). CONCLUSION: Preoperative imaging studies offer valuable information regarding the location and origination of the tumor, and intracapsular enucleation helped us to preserve the nerve function.ope

Anti-Allergic Activity of a Platycodon Root Ethanol Extract

    Get PDF
Platycodon grandiflorum (Campanulaceae) is used as traditional medicine in Asian countries. In Korean traditional medicine, Platycodon root has been widely used since ancient times as a traditional drug to treat cold, cough and asthma. However, its effects on bone marrow-derived mast cell (BMMC)-mediated allergy and inflammation mechanisms remain unknown. In this study, the biological effect of Platycodon root ethanol extract (PE) was evaluated in BMMC after induction of allergic mediators by phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) plus calcium ionophore A23187 (A23187) stimulation. The effect of PE on the production of several allergic mediators, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), prostaglandin D2 (PGD2), leukotriene C4 (LTC4), Ī²-Hexosaminidase (Ī²-Hex) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein, was investigated. The results demonstrate that PE inhibits PMA + A23187 induced production of IL-6, PGD2, LTC4, Ī²-Hexosaminidase and COX-2 protein. Taken together, these results indicate that PE has the potential for use in the treatment of allergy

Decreasing Trends of Neonatal and Infant Mortality Rates in Korea: Compared with Japan, USA, and OECD Nations

Neonatal mortality rate (NMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) are two of the most important indices reflecting the level of public health of a country. In this review, we investigated changes in NMR and IMR in Korea and compared the results with those of Japan, USA, and OECD nations. During the past 20 yr, NMR and IMR have lowered remarkably from 6.6 and 9.9 in 1993 to 1.7 and 3.2 in 2009, respectively, in Korea. It is an impressive finding that Korean IMR (3.2 in 2009) is lower than the average of OECD nations (4.7 in 2008), and USA (6.3 in 2009), although higher than Japanese IMR (2.8 in 2009). The proportion of NMR among the IMR calculation decreased from 66.7% in 1993 to 53.1% in 2009. The reason the value of Korea was higher than Japan but lower than USA was speculated to be an aspect of the health care service system. Several suggestions in perinatal, neonatal and infantile health care such as establishment of perinatal care center, research network system, regionalization, and new policies for care of pre-term and high risk pregnancy, are elucidated to achieve further improvement on NMR and IMR in Korea

Exaggeration of wrinkles after botulinum toxin injection for forehead horizontal lines

There have been no long-term complications or life-threatening adverse effects related to botulinum toxin treatment for any cosmetic indications. Nevertheless, there are well-known, mild side effects of botulinum toxin treatment on the upper face, though most of them are self limited with time. However, excluding brow ptosis, reports about site specific side effects are few and anecdotal. We experienced cases of exaggeration of wrinkles after botulinum toxin injection for forehead horizontal lines, and report them here. In our cases, new appearance of a noticeable glabellar protrusion following botulinum toxin injection on the forehead was observed in 2 patients. Also, a new deep wrinkle on one side of the forehead just above the eyebrow appeared in another 2 patients. The exaggerated wrinkles nearly disappeared without treatment by week 4 in all subjects. These exaggerations of wrinkles may be caused by hyperactivity and overcompensation of untreated muscles. With the increasing availability of diverse botulinum toxin for cosmetic purposes, physicians and patients should be aware of this temporary change after therapeutic injections. We recommend explaining this possible effect prior to injection, for better understanding of treatment for cosmetic indications.OAIID:oai:osos.snu.ac.kr:snu2011-01/102/2008000790/3SEQ:3PERF_CD:SNU2011-01EVAL_ITEM_CD:102USER_ID:2008000790ADJUST_YN:NEMP_ID:A079501DEPT_CD:801CITE_RATE:.531FILENAME:botox and wrinkles.pdfDEPT_NM:ģ˜ķ•™ź³¼SCOPUS_YN:NCONFIRM:
